Be Short of Low Sulfur Petroleum Coke

Low-sulfur petroleum coke refers to the petroleum coke with sulfur content below 1%, which is a by-product of the petroleum refining process, mainly used in the production of lithium anode materials, graphite electrodes and high-end pre-baked anodes. Compared with medium and high sulfur coke, low sulfur coke has the advantages of high carbon content, low ash, less impurities, good microcrystalline structure, and is easier to graphitize, which is suitable to the production of high-performance negative electrode materials.

 

In 2025, the domestic demand for lithium anode materials will reach about 2.9 million tons, and the corresponding demand for petroleum coke will exceed 2.3 million tons. On the other hand, with the replacement of iron and steel electric furnaces and the trend of high-end prebaked anodes, the demand for low-sulfur coke for graphite electrodes and high-end prebaked anodes cannot be underestimated. It is expected that the domestic demand for graphite electrodes will reach about 1.2 million tons in 2025, and the corresponding demand for low sulfur coke will exceed 600,000 tons.

In the context of supply and demand imbalance, low-sulfur coke has become a bottleneck resource in the negative electrode material industry.

 

Faced with the problem of low sulfur coke, how should enterprises deal with it? On the one hand, it can purchase and reserve low-sulfur coke through multiple channels to ensure the stability of raw material supply. On the other hand, through technological innovation and product upgrading, the utilization efficiency of low-sulfur coke can be improved and the cost and consumption can be reduced. In addition, it can also reduce the dependence on low-sulfur coke by finding alternative raw materials and expanding new application fields, and increase the competitiveness and risk resistance of products.
